41% Suicides Committed by Youth
Nearly 41% of suicides committed in the year 2014 are by youth, revealed National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Most people who committed suicide were of the age group 14 to 30. In 2014, 1.31 lakh people ended their lives. Most suicides were recorded in Maharashtra and the number is 16,307. Tamil Nadu is next with 16,122 suicides. West Bengal and Telangana stood third and fourth with 14,310 and 9,623 suicides respectively. In Andhra Pradesh, the number was 6,101. According to MCRB reports, 41 per cent in 14 to 30 years age group, 74 per cent in 25 to 45 years of age and 18 per cent in 45 to 60 years age group took their own lives. In the age group of 14 to 30 years, of those who committed suicide, 52 per cent were women and 36 per cent were men.
