Slum Dwellers Attack Policemen in Orissa
Slum dweller in Bhuvaneswar, Orissa have proved once again that public will not hesitate doing anything they want if they are troubled. In the recent incident, public in Bhuvaneswar had beaten up policemen and pushed them off into a drain. A group of residents of Haldipada slum under Laxmisagar police station thrashed a CI, an SI and some other policemen.
As per reports, a slum dweller named Santhosh involved in an extra-marital affair with a girl belonging to the same locality. The girl was betrayed and got pregnant. When the matter leaked, people in the area went to the Laxmisagar police station to file an FIR on Santhosh. But the policemen there refused to take down their complaint. Santhosh even tried to set his wife on fire by pouring kerosene over her body. Angry villagers, on knowing this, tied the man to a tree and mercilessly beat him up. When policemen were informed about the incident, they rushed in to rescue Santhosh. This even angered the dwellers because the police inspite of not filing an FIR on Santhost, tried to help him. They thrashed all the policemen, attacked them with rocks and slippers and then pushed them off into a drain. When some locals tried to stop the situation from worsening even more, policemen ran away from the spot. Laxmisagar police commissioner has ordered an inquiry on the issue.
