Abdul Kalam’s Mortal Remains to Rameswaram; Funeral Tomorrow
Former Indian President Abdul Kalam’s mortal remains were carried by a special aircraft from Delhi to Madhurai for performing last rites. The special craft started at Palam airport at around 8:00 am this morning. Central ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Manohar Parrikar travelled along with Kalam’s body in the craft. From Madhurai, the body will be carried to Kalam’s birthplace Rameswaram by a helicopter. People may pay tributes to Abdul Kalam till 7 pm on Wednesday. Later on thurday morning at 11:00 am, the funeral will take place. PM Modi, several ministers and eminent persons will make presence at the funeral tomorrow. However, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said that she would not be attending the ceremony due to her bad health conditions. She said that Panneerselvam will be present at the funeral on her behalf.
