Artist Hema Upadhyay’s Body Found in Drain
Popular artist Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani were found dead and their bodies were recovered from boxes in a drain in Mumbai on Saturday night. Police are suspecting 3 persons in the murder and are trying to trace the accused through mobile data of Hema and Harish.
It is known that things were not going well between Hema and her artist husband Chintan and they applied for divorce. Lawyer Harish Bhambhani appeared for Hema Upadhyay. Policemen strongly believe that Chintan might have committed the murder. Gotu, owner of a Charkop warehouse, one of the three main suspects has been arrested. Hema and Harish’s networks last receiving signals at Gotu’s godown, dispute regarding Rs.5 lakhs between Hema Upadhyay and Gotu have made police arrest the man. Also they found that before Hema went missing on Friday evening, she last spoke to a man named Rajbhar. This man, a metal fabrication artist had allegedly called Hema and told her that he has strong evidence against Chintan for their divorce.
Hema Upadhyay, originally known as Hema Hirani was born in Baroda, Gujarat. She was internationally recognized for her photography and sculptural works. She received awards from National Academy of Fine Arts, Gujarat Fine Arts Academy and more. Hema got married in 1998 to an artist named Chintan who belongs to Rajasthan and they both lived in Mumbai. Though their married life was great, differences that later arose between them led to filing divorce. Also Hema Upadhyay filed harassment case against her husband. She was murdered while police were investigating Chintan over the allegations.
