Beep Song Controversy: Simbu Anirudh to be Arrested?
Tamil star hero Simbu has made headlines after penning a song with lewd lyrics and circulating it over Whatsapp. Now, the actors might have to serve prison for the act. The Beep Song with lyrics that includes obscene lyrics insulting women, written and sung by Simbu is attracting backlash all over the country. Apart from degrading women regarding love break-up, Simbu used foul language in Beep Song. Though beep sound has been put in place lewd comments, the words are clearly predictable. Members of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) demanded that the two be arrested and the vulgar song be banned. Cases have been filed against Simbu and Anirudh Chandra (Kolaveri Di fame) who composed tune for the song. The two were booked under section 4 read with section 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women Act and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code and 67 (publishing or obscene material in electronic form) of the IT Act.
Reacting to the backlash, actor Simbu said, “How can someone invade my privacy and steal a song that I composed with Anirudh for fun a few years back, during one of our jam sessions criticize for the cuss words used in it? We have been working on it for the last few years during our free time and some idiot has stolen it from my phone and posted it on the net. I owe no explanation nor am I answerable to anyone regarding this. This song is neither official and it is not meant to be used in any film album”.
Music composer Anirudh who is currently in Toronto doing his concert for Chennai’s flood victims denied his association with the controversial song. He clarified on social media by saying, “Hello all. I was preoccupied with my concert in Toronto dedicated to the flood victims in Tamil Nadu. I would like to clarify my stand on the subject of the beep song. It is neither my composition nor my lyrics and I am not the singer. Unfortunately, and to my dismay, my name has been dragged into this controversy. I have the greatest regard and respect for women as can be clearly seen in many of my own compositions. I deeply regret this undesirable situation and want to put an end to all speculations regarding the same”. Simbu who is presently not in the city is reportedly trying for anticipatory bail through a popular lawyer in Chennai.
