A girl named Dolly Kumari, 17 is pursuing polytechnic first year in a college in Ranchi. Her parents who decided to get her married forced Dolly that she discontinues education and gets married. Dolly tried to a large extent to explain to them that she does not want to get married soon but in vain. So, Dolly decided to meet the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Raghubar Das. She attended the CM grievance programme, where the CM listened to requests from public. Dolly Kumari told him when she got her turn, all about the child marriage that was fixed by her parents. She expressed her interest in further education and that her parents are getting ready to get her married, which she does not want to happen now. Also she told him that she is a minor and it would be a child marriage.
CM Raghubar Das who reacted immediately to the Dolly’s words called and spoke to the girl’s father. He warned him that child marriage is a crime and in case he commits to it, he will severely be punished. He suggested that if there is any financial crisis it should not be solved this way and he assured that government will pay any educational expenses of the girl hereafter.
