Dance Bars to Resume in Maharashtra
Dance bars will be back to form soon in Maharashtra as the Supreme Court stayed banning of dance performances in bars, hotels etc in the state. In 2014, Maharashtra government framed a law that bans dance programs in hotels, restaurants in the state. A two-membered bench of Justice Dipak Misra and Prafulla C Pant said that this law is similar to the one that was made earlier, banning dance performances. The Justices said that the previous law was struck down by Supreme Court after terming it as unconstitutional and the new law is similar to this one. The apex court has now stayed the new law but did not bestow licensing authorities the power regulate indecent dance performances. SC said that the state must see that dignity of female artists is protected.
