Dawood Ibrahim’s Properties Auctioned
Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s properties were auctioned in Hotel Diplomat in Mumbai yesterday. A hotel, a Hyundai Accent car and a room used by Dawood were the seized properties of Dawood. Many people competed to own them. Former journalist S.Balakrishnan who owns an NGO won bid which started at Rs.1.18 crores and ended at Rs.4.28 crores for Rounak Afroz Hotel. Green Hyundai Accent of Dawood was sold to ‘Hindu Mahasabha’ representative Swamy Chakrapani at Rs.3.32 lakhs. He said that he would transform the old car into an ambulance and donate to under privileged. If that is not possible, Chakrapani said that they would attach an effigy of Dawood after attaching it to the car. Bid for a room of area 32.77 sq m in Mahaveer Building in Matunga was started at a price of Rs.50.44 lakhs. Though the room was sold out, auctioneers did not announce name of the person who won the bid. The auction was conducted based on Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act. 1976. A private company was assigned the job of conducting the auction by government.
