Debate begins on Lalit Modi Issue in Lok Sabha
Discussion on Lalit Modi’s issue has begun in Lok Sabha finally. Session was adjourned briefly by Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan. Congress party that demanded discussion under an adjournment said that the issue should be discussed under the title ‘Modi Gate’. Sumithra Mahajan, however, objected and said it cannot be done. With this, the opposition leaders created agitation by shouting slogans. The discussion began soon after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj announced that she was ready for a debate in the Parliament. Congress Leader Mallikarjun Kharge began the debate on the Lalit Modi controversy after his party’s adjournment motion was accepted by Speaker. Discussion will go on for 2 and a half hour on the issue. Central minister Venkaiah Naidu also announced that government is ready to discuss Lalit Modi controversy and members are seated, discussion would start. But Congress party leaders did not calm down. With this, Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the session till 12:30 pm.
During the debate, Mallikharjun Kharge said that if PM Modi and his government had taken up the issue earlier, it would not have led to wastage of time. He demanded Narendra Modi’s presence in the House at the time of discussion of Lalit Modi’s issue. “PM Modi should be present in House to listen to us and assure that action will be taken. We will be satisfied if PM is present during the discussion. He only talks on radio and television. That is not right,” said Kharge.
