Facebook, BSNL Plan 100 WiFi Hotspots in India
Popular Social network Facebook and state-owned BSNL are planning 100 Wi-Fi hotspots in rural areas in India. BSNL Chairman & MD Anupam Shrivastava announced that Facebook will be spending Rs.5 crore per year to buy bandwidth from BSNL as a part of the plan. IT infrastructure service providers like Quad Zen and Trimax will be looking after equipment and allotment of fibres. “Facebook has chosen 100 villages to provide Wi-Fi hotspots on a revenuesharing model, it will spend Rs 5 lakh per site a year for buying bandwidth from BSNL for a period of three year” Shrivastava. He mentioned that 25 villages will be provided with the Wi-Fi hotspots and will be ready by the end of December.
