Godavari Pushkaralu:Leaders Express Grief Over Deaths
Prime Minister Modi and CMs of telugu states, Chandrababu Naidu and KCR expressed grief over accidental deaths at Pushkara Ghat at Kotagummam in Rajahmundry. PM Modi paid condolences to families of deceased and prayers for injured. The PM spoke to CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu on phone to discuss the situation. Chandrababu regretted the deaths as they occurred even after arrangement of proper facilities. He mentioned that it is a result of crowd that happened to be more than estimated number of devotees. Telangana CM KCR also reacted to the tragic deaths of devotees as they occurred when the devotees were there to take holy dip in the river and offer prayers. He offered prayers for them. The tragedy occurred when a large number of pilgrims rushed towards one of the gates at Kotagummam pushkar ghat on the banks of Godavari River. Bodies of victims were shifted to Rajahmundry government hospital. It is known that as many as 27 people died in the stampede.
It is known that the pushkaram this year is special as it marks the ‘Maha Pushkaram’, which comes once in every 144 years. Crores of devotees are expected to visit and take bath during the Maha Pushkaram.
