Jayalalithaa Hosts PM Modi in Chennai on National Handloom Day


PM Narendra Modi launched the first National Handloom Day on friday in Chennai where he was hosted by Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa. The luncheon meeting between the PM and Tamil Nadu CM gained significance as it triggered speculations of BJP’s alliance with Jayalalithaa. Narendra Modi was served lunch at the CM’s Pose Garden residence. Sources say that when the AIADMK leader called Modi for lunch, he accepted.

PM Modi visited Jayalalithaa’s residence soon after launching the National Handloom, Day from University of Madras. Issues concerning Tamil Nadu state, river issues between Karnataka and Kerala were reportedly discussed by the Tamil Nadu CM. The meeting between the two leaders assumed significance considering AIADMK’s support to the Modi government on the controversial Land Acquisition Bill in Lok Sabha even though Jayalalithaa had flagged certain reservations. It is known that Jayalalithaa earlier mentioned Modi as a good friend and Narendra Modi congratulated the CM on her acquittal in disproportionate assets case. Some sources say that BJP is planning to spread its wing to Tamil Nadu.It is known that BJP President Amit Shah recently visited the state.
