Nanded Express Accident in Anantapur District
A terrible accident occurred at railway crossing in Anantapur district at 2:25 am in which Nanded Express travelling from Bengaluru to Nanded crashed into a granite lorry whose brakes failed and was travelling from Penugonda to Thadipatri. Karnataka Deva Durga MLA Venkatesh Nayak and 5 others were spot dead. Many others were severely injured.
Rescue teams and firefighters who were informed about the incident immediately rushed to the spot to rescue victims. Due to the Nanded accident, way for other trains was blocked between Bengaluru and Guntakal. Bedar Express was halted in Gaarladinne, Sholapur Express in Kollur and Udhyanavana Express in Tadicherla. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu who was saddened by the ghastly accident ordered District Collector and Minister Paritala Sunitha to arrange for passengers to reach their destinations. It is observed that around 20 buses were arranged to transport people from Puttaparti and Penugonda.
