Nirbhaya Case: SC Dismisses Plea to Stay Release of Juvenile
The Supreme Court dismissed plea petition filed by Delhi Commission for Women to stay the release of juvenile rapist in Nirbhaya case. The minor was kept in juvenile board for three years and was released yesterday. Also monetary support was announced for him to set up a shop. He is now taken care of by an NGO. Nationwide protests are observed in the context of release of Nirbhaya juvenile rapist. Various women’s commissions staged protests in Delhi against acquittal of the minor. Nirbhaya’s (Jyothi Singh) parents also joined hands in the protest. “Crime has won and we have lost once again. I knew this only would happen”, said Nirbhaya’s mother. When the Delhi Commission for Women approached Supreme Court pleading not to release the juvenile, the SC dismissed the plea.
