Notices Issued to T News Channel
The T News channel that released certain audio and video tapes stating that they feature CM Chandrababu Naidu’s voice is issued notices by AP police. “The program (audio tapes) that you broadcasted on your channel is against the Program Code mentioned in Section-19 of the Cable Television Networks (regulation) act. The news program contained material disturbing public tranquillity not only in state of Andhra Pradesh but also Telangana, thereby developed feeling of enmity, hatred and ill-will between different political parties and also people of both states”, the notice said. If police officials of one state are to serve notices to an organization or an individual in another state, they have to intimate that state’s police officials about the same. But Andhra police directly reaching out for T News Channel management is being taken in the wrong way by Telangana police officials.
Is Suffering Inevitable for T News?
T News might have to face trouble with regard to audio tapes which are alleged to bear the voice of AP CM Chandrababu Naidu. If they agree that the tapes are original, reasoning should be given to court on how they got the tapes. No channel has the authority to tap any leader’s phone. In case they say that the Telangana government has tapped and given tapes to them, questions like why the tapes were not submitted to the court and whether they have taken required permissions to tap phones will be put forward by the court.
What will happen according to Section-19?
As mentioned in the notice by AP Police, as per Section-19 there is a chance of blocking broadcasting of any other programs if a cable network or a TV channel broadcasts against Program Code mentioned in the Cable Television Networks (regulation) act. The rule applies if the program fuels differences between people. There is possibility of legal action against a channel if its program content defames a person. The T News office is located in Hyderabad. AP police have no authority to take any action in the place. In case the court orders to block broadcasting all programs by T News, Telangana police will have to come into picture.
