SC Refers Yaqub’s Plea to Larger Bench
The Supreme Court referred plea of Yaqub Memon accused in Mumbai blasts to stay his execution on 30th july to a larger bench. The two member bench of Justices AR Dave and Kurian Joseph differed in their opinions on the issue of the plea of Memon, after which it was referred to larger bench. It is known that death sentence was imposed on Yaqub memon for his involvement in 1993 Mumbai blasts. The Court ordered that he be executed on 30th august, after which Memon filed a plea to stay it. The terrorist is now under imprisonment in Nagpur jail in Maharashtra. Officials have already made arrangements to execute Yaqub Memon in the same jail and Yaqub approached the Supreme Court.
