Searches for 700 Missing Migrants; Boat Sinks in Mediterranean Sea
In one of the worst Mediterranean disasters that took place midnight on Saturday, as many as 700 people are found missing as a boat packed with migrants sinks off the Libyan coast. Italian government has initiated operation to recover the missing migrants.
A fishing boat carrying 700 migrants started from Libya to reach Lampedusa island in Italy sunk. As the ship in which they were travelling is overloaded, they decided to shift into a vessel that came nearby. In the effort, stampede took place which resulted in overturning of the boat. Italian rescue operation immediately reacted to the ghastly incident. 28 people were rescued and 24 bodies were recovered from the 20 meter long vessel. Many rescue vessels and helicopters are sent on the operation of discovering missing persons.
Though we have been witnessing many shipwrecks these days in which many are losing their lives in the sea, this is the worst Mediterranean migrant crisis, said Italian Coast guards. They said that all measures are being taken to rescue those who are alive.
