Selfie with Cow #Cowfie Contest
In the wake of increasing cow slaughter, an NGO in Kolkata initiated a novel contest under the name ‘Cowfie’ which is the ‘selfie with cow’ contest. Going into detail… A Kolkata based NGO ‘Go Seva Parivar’ held a campaign for one month starting from November, asking people to post selfies with cows. The contest and campaign aims at educating people on economic and medicinal benefits of cow produces, which they say, are much more than beef that is obtained by slaughtering of cows. “Every product from cow has its scientific value and need, whether it is urine or milk,” said an official from the NGO. “If you can take a selfie with your mother, family members and pets, why can’t you take a selfie with cow who are so useful for the mankind,” wrote one of the contestants on Facebook wall of Go Seva Pariwar, which has become popular on the social media website with the contest. While cow slaughter and beef consumption are banned in some BJP-ruled states in the country, there are no such restrictions in West Bengal or Kolkata.
