Special Olympics World Games: India Wins 173 Medals
In the 2015 Special Olympics World Games, India won 173 medals; 47 gold, 54 silver and 72 bronze. The Games were held in Los Angeles of the United States from 25th july to 2nd august. About 6,500 athletes from 177 countries took part of which the indian contingent consisted of 275 athletes. These athletes hail from 14 disciplines. India won 39 medals in Roller Skating, 47 medals in athletics, which contributed most to the 173-medal-victory. Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports event that is held for athletes with disabilities.Michelle Obama officially opened the 2015 Special Olympics which witnessed the largest gathering in the world, after 1984.
Sports that were played this year in Special Olympics included aquatics, athletics, badminton, basketball, bocce, bowling, cycling, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, judo, kayaking, marathon, powerlifting, roller skating, sailing, softball, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, beach soccer, beach volleyball, open-water swimming and triathlon.
