UV Radiation is Reason for Numerous Deaths due to Sun Stroke
High intensity Ultra-Violet (UV) radiation is the reason for the numerous deaths witnessed in AP and Telangana in past few days due to sun stroke, said World Meterological Organisation (WMO). UV radiation index in the two states stands at a critically high figure of 12, said WMO. The organization made clear that higher the index value of radiation, greater is the potential for damage to the human body. UV index of 12 indicates high risk of sunstroke and other skin ailments like skin cancer. Radiation peaks between 1 pm and 4 pm said WMO. Doctors on the other hand suggest usage of sun screens with higher SPF values, sun glasses to protect from sun rays, intake of fluids to avoid dehydration. It is seen that this time, as many as 852 members in Andhra Pradesh and 239 in Telangana died due to exposure to heat wave.
