Girl children born in a village are turning into boys as soon as they they reach 12 years of age. This is a natural gender transformation and is taking place due to genetic disorder. This rare disorder is being observed in the Dominican Republic of Caribbean islands. It is due to a missing enzyme that a child that should actually be born a male is being born as a female. This missing of enzyme prevents production of male sex hormone called dihydrotestosterone in the womb of a mother, because of which female baby is born instead of male. As these children reah 12 years of age ie., the age of puberty, the male hormone starts improving in their bodies, leading to generation of male sex organ. Thus girls are transforming into boys at the age of 12.

Guevedoces (first a woman, then a man) is the scientific term for this disorder. The medical terminology used for it is Pseudohermaphrodite. One in every 90 females born is transforming into a male in Dominican Republic. Two in every 90 girl children born in Salinas village in south-west of the Dominican Republic are suffering the transformation at the age of 12. The first case of this kind was observed in 1970, said Dr.Michael Mosley.
