Whatsapp, Viber, Skype Calls to Be Banned?
A telecom department panel on net neutrality recommended that internet calling on apps like Whatsapp, Viber, Skype should be regulated. The committee mentioned that the regulation may not be made on international calls and messages. As the existing telecom revenue models are being disrupting by the free calling facility on these apps, the recommendation was done. The panel has also recommended that telecom operators be allowed to manage Internet traffic to make their networks work efficiently as long as they don’t violate net neutrality principles. However, net neutrality activists claim that allowing telecom operators to regulate traffic will give them a tool to discriminate that could hurt competition, economic growth and free speech.
