Woman Set Afire by Police for Refusing to Pay Bribe
A journalist’s mother was set afire by police in Uttar Pradesh for not paying bribe. The ghastly incident took place at Barabanki police station in U.P. A man named Ram Narayan was taken to police station regarding a case. His wife Neetu Dwivedi reached the station to get her husband freed. That was when police officers demanded Rs.1 lakh to set her husband free,said Neetu in her statement before magistrate before she died. She mentioned that they set her on fire after harassing her for refusing to pay bribe to them. Two police officers suspected of the horrifying act were suspended. But the police officers belonging to the station alleged that Neetu Dwivedi set herself on fire at the station’s gate. Uttar Pradesh Minister Sivapal Yadav said that the case will be thoroughly investigation and guilty will severely be punished.
