World’s Largest Kidney Weighing 2.75kg Removed by Delhi Surgeons
The world’s largest kidney was removed from a person by doctors of Sri Gangaram Hospital (sgrh) in Delhi. A 3 hour surgery was performed by Urological surgeon of SGRH Dr. Manu Gupta to remove the kidney that weighed 2.75 kg.
A person named Subhash Yadav (45) experiencing severe abdominal pain, blood in urine and chronic renal failure approached doctors in SGRH about a month ago. Doctors upon examining discovered that the person was suffering from Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) and decided to a kidney immediately before it could lead to the death of the patient. The second kidney was also removed a week later as it weighed 2.5 kg. Doctors said that kidney removal was necessary as the condition was very severe and now the patient is recovering well and awaiting kidney transplant.
“A normal kidney on an average weighs 130 grams but the 2.75 kg kidney that we removed was 20 times more than the regular weight. It was a challenging task for us”, said surgeon Manu Gupta.
The SGRH surgeons, by removing a 2.75 kg kidney have broken the record established by Maharashtrian surgeons who removed a kigney weighing 2.15kg.
